The Players of Comic Con

The Best Cosplay of New York Comic Con 2014

Photos by Franklin Michael Venegas

Comic Con offers us many fun things that will satisfy all of our geek needs. From comic book news to vendors that sell collectibles that we haven’t seen since childhood to autograph signings that allow us to meet our favorite celebrities.

It also gives us fans a safe place where we can dress up as our favorite comic book heroes or villains. Sure, it feels like Halloween has arrived early but it’s always great to see how creative people get with their costumes.

Below I’ve selected some of the top looks that I was lucky enough to encounter inside the Javits Center. So be ready to see both kids and adults dressed up in some awesome characters which include The Riddler, Zombies, Peter Pan and some other cool characters.

Also, I've put a (?) below some photos because I wasn't sure of the character. So, I challenge you viewers to help us out by posting who they are in the comments below. Thanks!

Marvel Reveals Daredevil Concept Art

Joe Quesada's Daredevil Concept Art Revealed

Marvel's presence at New York Comic Con this year includes a panel for the new Netflix show "Marvel's Daredevil." The cast and show runner will be making their first public appearance at New York Comic Con later today. With little more than an hour to go, Marvel has unveiled Joe Quesada's Daredevil concept art for the show. Earlier today Netflix posted the first official webpage for the show featuring a brief synopsis. Go check it out here. What do you guys think of our first look?

Daredevil Concept Art

"Marvel's Daredevil" is just the first of 5 superhero focused series coming to Netflix in 2015. Along with Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron First, Daredevil will team up to create The Defenders. With each hero first getting their own series, the four characters will join forces for a mini-series aptly named The Defenders. There hasn't been much news for any of the other characters slated to come to Netflix next year, but there has been lots of chatter and rumors flying about who will be cast in these superhero roles.  Matt Murdoch has already been cast for Daredevil by Charlie Cox  with a supporting cast of Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin and Rosario Dawson in an undisclosed role. Along with Showrunner Steve S. DeKnight the cast will be making a presentation at New York Comic Con today to shed some more light on the show.

For all you NYCC-goers the presentation begins at 5:15pm EST. We will be featuring more NYCC news as we hear it, so stay tuned to Nerdbinge.com. Check out Franklin Michael Vengas' recap of the first two days at our post here.

New York Comic Con - Day 1 & 2 Recap

Hello, NYCC!

The Con has begun and with it thousands of fellow geeks have invaded the Javits' Center! Here's a quick recap of the last two days:

Thursday, started off great! The line to get in wasn't too long and everyone was inside within minutes. Since this day is the calmest of the four, it was a great time to see what goods vendors are selling and what one could add to their collection. Artist's Alley, as always, has amazing talent that it makes it difficult to select just one print.

Friday had a little more foot traffic than the day before but overall very similar. The only added bonus was that there were a lot more cosplayers.

NYCC 2014

Here's some highlights:

Playing a demo for Resident Evil: Revelations 2
Buying swag on the sales floor which included some Buffy memorabilia and some horror villain classics such as Chucky, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers.
Gwen Stacy, as my fellow writer, Phil, mentioned, is getting her own series as Spider-Gwen.
A new series titled Wolverines will start after the Death of Wolverine.
Bob, from Bob's Burgers, will be reunited with his father.
Photo ops with Jason David Frank, Hulk Hogan, Lucy Lawless, among others.
Snapping photos of and with cosplayers.
Marvel teases the fate of the Fantastic Four and revisits the phrase "No more mutants."

Today marks day three of the con which will lead to more geek fun.

Nerd News: Goblins, Dark Crystals, and Spiders, Outrageous! (Truly)

Nerd News for Friday, October 10th

OK! It's Friday and the weekend is upon us. With so much interesting news coming this weekend from NYCC, I thought it might be good to do a little roundup of today's Nerd-related news.

First up, news about a sequel to Labyrinth was snuck under the radar in a recent article from Variety.com. The item is literally in the very last paragraph of the article and provides no other details.  The original exclusive article was a feature with Billy Crystal about joining the cast of Which Witch. (Mmm Which Wich... now I just want a sandwich). Anyway, the article reads:
It’s also working on a quartet of legacy titles in the Henson library — a “Fraggle Rock” movie that’s been in development at New Regency; a sequel to 1982’s “The Dark Crystal”; a sequel to 1986’s “Labyrinth”; and a movie based on the Emmet Otter character.

Let's not just gloss over The Dark Crystal either. How have we not heard more about these? Oh my little fantasy loving nerd heart be still. Can we hope for a return of David Bowie as the Goblin King? I don't see HOW they could do the sequel without him.

Moving forward with more 80's nostalgia loveliness, IDW announced a new Jem ongoing comic. With a Jem movie in production for release in 2016, this development is not super surprising. I can't say I'm excited about the movie with what news I've heard, but let's hope the comic will bring more of that truly, truly, truly outrageous Jem that we all know and love. There aren't any details as far as who will be behind the book, but we know it's slated to début in April.

Luckily by February 2015, we'll have another awesome heroine to focus on, Gwen Stacy. That's right, Marvel announced today that Spider-Gwen will be getting her own ongoing series. I think that is a great idea. My love for Spider-Gwen is no secret to regular readers at NerdBinge. I have hoped that Marvel was seriously considering this property. There were lots rumors flying that all the buzz for Edge of Spider-Verse #2 had the studio considering the option. With the news that it's real, I'm a little bit giddy.  The same creative team of writer Jason Latour and artist Robbi Rodriguez will return to create the book.
